Large antique girl's hall building plaque made from approximately 55 blocks of terracotta reclaimed from the Excelsior Works factory, Blackheath, Rowley Regis.  The factory was started towards the end of the 19th Century by Thomas William Lench and specialised in making nuts and bolts.  With dentil cornicing and ornately hand carved ribbon swag detailing.  Rough overall size below, each letter stone is roughly 28-42cm wide x 43.5cm high x 11.5cm deep.  The dentil cornicing pieces are each 26.5cm wide x 25.3cm high x 23.5cm deep.  The plain stones between the dentil cornicing and the letter stones are each roughly 32.7cm wide x 25.7cm high x 11.5cm deep.  The plain stones below the letter stones are each roughly 29.9cm wide x 17.2cm high x 22.7cm deep.  Chips to edges and remnants of mortar.  We have another 'works entrance' plaque from the same factory available here.
