English Salvage Ltd
It's A Family Affair
Rupert has an MSc in Tropical Agriculture and spent his professional career in The Third World working in aid and development, a far cry then from salvaging the past. He is now the driving force behind English Salvage, travelling extensively on buying trips and with a keen design eye and an uncanny ability to spot the next big trend.
Pru trained and worked as a journalist, joining Rupert in Africa. She now tries to keep Rupert's feet on the ground, paying the bills and keeping an eye on the finances. She is part of the sales team and sometimes joins Rupert on his buying jaunts.
With three of our 4 children now adults, we like to get them involved in the business as much as possible. Barney is studying at Durham University and has a passion for rugby. Every holiday he can be found putting those muscles to good use around the yard, and he helps out with photography and displays. Millie is studying at Lancaster University and also gets roped in during the holidays. She is bringing a fresh perspective to our Marketing, she helps with the photography too and lends a hand where it is needed. Toby is the latest member of the family to join the payroll helping out in all the holidays.
Chris is our assistant manager and head of sales. He is the level headed and methodical person that holds us all together and makes sure that everything that needs to be done is! He has been with us the longest and knows the yard stock inside and out.
Ameena helps Chris out with sales and is responsible for shipping and deliveries. She is a friendly voice at the end of the phone to customers and a valued member of staff.
Mike is a professional graphic artist and studio photographer. He manages the brand, product presentation, marketing and the website. Working with web developers, he made sure that we ended up with this fabulous and user friendly site that truly reflects the eclectic nature of our business and showcases our incredible stock. We pride ourselves on our website and we think we may be the only yard that lists ALL our stock. We update the website every day, a labour of love which is down to the incredible Helen. She keeps us all on our toes and makes sure we keep her updated about the stock. It would be chaos without her!
Everyday we have things from as small as a key to as large as a complete building coming in and going out of the yard. The logistics of storage, collection and delivery is not to be underestimated and we have a great team who struggle valiantly to keep up with Rupert's obsessive buying and the packaging and shipping of our constant sales. Our hard working yard staff Neil, Mark and Matt, brave the great British weather, day in and day out.
