Marble and Slate

Many fine historical buildings had elegant marble flooring laid throughout.  Here at English Salvage we have some fine examples of these striking floors.  Common marble flooring types are Carrara; with a warm white grey streaked colouring, Breccia; with swirl patterns, rich red and gold colours, and finally Calacatta; similar to Carrara but with a whiter background, it is the more sought after of two types.

Slate is a hard wearing, natural product which creates a stylish, usually dark grey flooring.  During the 18th and 19th Centuries, as well as flooring and roofing, slate was also used for blackboards, writing slates and even as tombstones.
